Potential Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources in Egypt

This paper presents a comprehensive study to assess the impact of climate change on Egypt’s water resources, focusing irrigation for agricultural crops, considering that agriculture sector is largest consumer in Egypt. The aims estimate future conditions using general circulation models (GCMs), and temperature increase demands CROPWAT 8 model, determine suitable type adapt with change. A case was selected Middle part area includes Giza, Bani-Sweif, Al-Fayoum, Minya governorates. requirements major crops under current weather climatic changes were estimated. Under four CCSM-30, GFDLCM20, GFDLCM21, GISS-EH, as well chosen scenario A1BAIM, model (MAGICC/ScenGen) applied 2050 2100 potential rise annual mean results MAGICC/SceGen indicated will be 2.12 °C 2050, 3.96 2100. percentage winter ranged from 6.1 7.3% 11.7 13.2% At same time, summer 4.9 5.8% 9.3 10.9% For Nili 5.0 5.1% 9.6 9.9% due affect security Egypt, available resources are limited, population growth another challenge which requires proper management resources.
